Athletes in Action

-Develop Athletes Physically, Mentally, & Spiritually-

We are committed to making disciples who make disciples. We emphasize life-on-life discipleship and create opportunities for our athletes to serve together, grow in community, and engage with the Word. We also encourage our athletes to join a local church during their time in college, helping them become lifelong laborers in the body of Christ.

Our Mission

To build spiritual movements everywhere through the platform of sport so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus.

Our Vision

To see a day where there is a Christ follower on every team, in every sport, in every nation.

How Does AIA Influence Lives?

We encourage athletes to live with eternity in mind as they grow in Christ and multiply their lives into others.

We help athletes and coaches find freedom in the perspective of sport as worship to God.

Building athletes physically, mentally, and spiritually so they can compete at the highest level possible to honor God.

WIN BUILD SEND

We believe that to fulfill our mission of “building spiritual movements everywhere, so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus,” we must win students to Christ, build them in their faith, and send them to reach others.

WIN

We win athletes to Christ by sharing The Gospel with them.

This is practiced through “ministry of presence” where staff will spend time at practices and competitions to support the student-athletes, building relationships with them to open the door for intentional conversations. Our student leaders practice this by inviting their teammates to bible studies, AIA events, or church.

BUILD

We build them up to become followers of Christ and leaders on their teams, so they can grow in character and competency in relationship with Christ.

This happens within Discipleship groups and Leadership. “D-groups” are either staff or student-led small groups designed to dig deeper into the word together and keep each other accountable to practice what is learned.

SEND

We send them out to their teams, to the workplace, to their families to be lifelong followers of Christ and missionaries.

Our student-leaders are a result of the win and build process. During their time in college, they are growing in their relationship with God and their ability to share that with others effectively. Our ultimate goal is to prepare them and the groups that they disciple to leave college feeling equipped to be on mission wherever they go.

Hear what our athletes are saying…

Bailey Holland

AIA student leader, junior on GS softball team

“I have been involved with AIA leadership for a year and after attending UTC this past summer, I began leading my own Bible Study on my team this fall. Since then, I has reported that every single teammate has attended a Bible Study and has been excited about learning more about Christ. This momentum has recieved a lot of attention from coaches and faculty. I am encouraged of my team’s intentionality. At practice, the girls have snuck worship music into their practice playlist. It is very obvious how much joy the softball team exerts! Also, I am very encouraged by how God is moving on the team and cannot wait to see how it continues to impact those around them.”

Daegan Strickland

AIA student leader, sophomore on GS baseball team

In August 2023, I quickly realized that Statesboro had more to offer than just baseball and became heavily involved with AIA. I have been dealing with a chronic back injury for the past few years that has consistently sidelined me from my sport and is even threatening to end my career. Amidst all of this, God has encouraged me to start leading a discipleship group with a couple of freshmen from the team. Even with the uncertainty of my future with baseball, I have confidence in the Lord and very excited to begin pouring into the younger players.”

Megan Morris & Marissa Taylor

AIA student leaders, GS cheer

Marissa and I agree that being a part of AIA during our years at GSU is exactly what we needed. The community we have gained and relationships we have built through AIA Leadership have shifted our priorities more towards ministry and discipleship and been a constant reminder that we are more than our sport and that Jesus is always better! The opportunity to grow closer to each other, be leaders on our team, and dig deeper into our personal relationships with the Lord is an opportunity we are so thankful for.”

Allistar Danjon

AIA student leader, senior defender, GS men’s soccer team

I became a believer in Jesus Christ this past summer playing on a Christian-based soccer team in Charlotte, NC. Just like the woman at the well who met Christ and went and told her whole town, I was very excited about sharing the Gospel with my Georgia Southern teammates. I started a Bible study late this summer with 4 teammates. We have around 12 guys coming each week. I want to glorify God in all that I do!”
